Maha Mrityunjaya Jaap in Ujjain
The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra recited to a set count with abhishek and havan, traditionally undertaken for health and long life.
Up to 10 brahmins for a full count · Half a day to three days, by the jaap count · Agastyeshwar Mahadev Mandir, Ujjain

About this puja
The Maha Mrityunjaya is among the oldest mantras in the Rig Veda, and reciting it to a set count with abhishek and havan is a rite families have long undertaken for health and long life. It is the count that decides the size of the rite.
A short jaap can be completed in a morning by one or two pandits. A full count of one lakh twenty-five thousand is divided among as many as ten brahmins and runs over about three days, with the mandal prepared and the abhishek continuing through it.
Because the scope varies so much, this is the one rite where we always agree the count with you before anything is fixed. Tell us what has been asked of you and we will set out what it takes and what it costs.

Questions people ask
- What jaap count do I need?
- Whatever your pandit or astrologer has asked for. If nobody has said, tell us on WhatsApp and the pandit here will suggest a count and explain what it involves.
- Why does the price not cover the full count?
- Because a full one-lakh-twenty-five-thousand count is ten brahmins over three days, which is a different undertaking from a morning’s jaap. We quote it separately so you can see what you are paying for.
- Can it be done for someone who cannot travel?
- The rite is performed here with a sankalp in their name. Send us the name, gotra and birth details and the pandit will confirm what he can do.
- How much notice do you need?
- A few days for a short jaap. Two to three weeks for a multi-day count, and longer for Shravan or Mahashivratri.
