Off the Mahakal approach
About 400 m from the Mahakal gates · A 6-minute walk
The closest of the three to the gates, and the one to take if somebody in the family will not manage a kilometre in the dark.
Harsiddhi Marg
About 700 m from the Mahakal gates · A 10-minute walk
On the Harsiddhi road, between the two temples, with larger rooms than you usually get this close in.
Begum Bagh, near the corridor
About 900 m from the Mahakal gates · A 12-minute walk, or 4 minutes by car
The most comfortable of the three near the temple, and the one that works best for a family that wants a proper room at the end of the day.
All three are inside the walk, so choosing between them is really about the room and the stairs rather than the distance. Tell us who is travelling and we will say which one we would put you in.
Larger, newer rooms for less a night, ten to twenty minutes from the gates by car, with easier parking and somewhere to eat late.
Freeganj
About 3 km from the Mahakal gates · 12 minutes by car
The best value of everything we book: a newer, larger room for less than half what the same room costs beside the gates.
Near Ram Ghat, the old town
About 2 km from the Mahakal gates · 8 minutes by car
Between the river and the old town, close enough to walk to Ram Ghat at first light and far enough out to sleep.
Both of these need a car for a pre-dawn aarti, which we book with the room so there is nothing to arrange on the night. At these rates the car still costs less than the difference in tariff.
