Omkareshwar and back
The second jyotirlinga of Madhya Pradesh, on an island in the Narmada. The driver waits all day.
- About 140 km each way
- A full day, roughly 5 am to 9 pm
- Round trip, from ₹4,000

About this journey
Omkareshwar is the other jyotirlinga in Madhya Pradesh, on an island shaped like the syllable Om where the Kaveri meets the Narmada. It is about a hundred and forty kilometres from Ujjain, and the road is good for most of the way.
The whole point of taking a car for the day is that the driver waits. You are not watching a clock at the ghat, you are not negotiating a return at four in the afternoon, and if the queue is long you simply take longer.
How the day goes
Picked up at your hotel between five and six in the morning.
Tea on the road, usually around Sanawad.
Omkareshwar by nine. The driver parks and waits; you cross by bridge or by boat.
Darshan at Omkareshwar, and at Mamleshwar across the river if you want both.
Lunch at Omkareshwar, and back on the road by about three.
In Ujjain by seven or eight, in time for the evening aarti if you want it.
Times are the usual shape of the day, not a timetable. The driver works to you.

Questions people ask
- How long does the darshan itself take?
- Anything from an hour to three, depending on the day and the queue. Because the car is yours for the day, a long queue costs you time rather than money.
- Can we do Mamleshwar as well?
- Yes, and most people do. It is across the river from the main temple and the two together are the usual visit.
- Is one day enough?
- It is a long day but a normal one. If you would rather stay the night at Omkareshwar, take the one-way drop instead and we will collect you when you are ready.
- When do we pay?
- At the end of the journey, to the driver. Nothing is taken on this site and there is no account to create.
- What if we cancel?
- Tell us the day before and there is nothing to pay. A car that has already set out for you is a different matter, and we would talk to you about it rather than apply a rule.
Fares are for the whole car and are confirmed with you in writing before the car is sent. Distances and driving times are approximate and change with the road, the traffic and the season. Darshan and aarti timings at any temple on this route are set by that temple, not by UjjainSeva, and entry is never guaranteed.
