Six temples in one day

Mahakaleshwar, Harsiddhi, Ram Ghat, Kal Bhairav, Mangalnath and Chintaman Ganesh, in the order that wastes least of your day, with a driver who waits at every one.

Auto or car?

The only real choice to make. Both cover the same six temples, and both are priced for the whole vehicle, so the figure does not change with how many of you travel.

    By auto rickshaw

₹1,000for the whole auto, all day

Up to four of you in a shared e-rickshaw or a three-wheeler, with the driver waiting at every temple.

    • Up to 4 people
    • Gets closest to the gates through the old lanes
    • Open sides, so it is warm in May and cold at dawn

    • Room for bags, prasad and a pushchair
    • Five categories to choose from

The day, stop by stop

The order below is the circuit we usually follow. Temples set their own darshan and aarti hours and change them with the day and the season, so we confirm the timings with you before you travel.

  1. The spire and outer walls of the Mahakaleshwar temple complex in Ujjain

    Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

    Before dawn

The Bhasma Aarti is the one moment the whole visit is built around. Entry is limited and has to be arranged well in advance.

  2. The two tall black lamp towers in the courtyard of the Harsiddhi temple in Ujjain

    Harsiddhi Mata

    Morning

The two black deep stambhs in the courtyard, each set with hundreds of lamps, are lit on festival evenings.

  3. Morning light on Ram Ghat, with devotees at the edge of the Shipra

    Ram Ghat, on the Shipra

    Late morning

The oldest bathing ghat in the city, and where most riverside rites are performed.

  4. Pilgrims entering the garlanded stone gateway of the Kal Bhairav temple in Ujjain

    Kal Bhairav

    Midday

The guardian of the city, at Bhairavgarh, where the offering of madira is a custom found at very few other shrines.

  5. The red sandstone entrance of Mangalnath Mandir, a saffron flag above it

    Mangalnath

    Afternoon

On the high bank above the river, and by tradition a place from which the sky was observed.

  6. The black stone Chintamani Ganapati deity at the Chintaman Ganesh temple, garlanded and dressed in red

    Chintaman Ganesh

    Evening

An old shrine across the Shipra, usually the quietest stop of the day and a good place to end.

Questions people ask

Is the price per person or for the whole vehicle?
For the whole vehicle. ₹1,000 is the auto whether one of you travels or four, and ₹2,000 is the sedan whether two of you travel or four. Only the size of the vehicle changes the figure.
Which should I take, the auto or a car?
If there are four of you or fewer, it is warm but not hot, and the price matters, take the auto. If anyone travelling with you is elderly, if you have bags, or if it is March to July, take a car: the air conditioning is worth more than the difference.
Can I do the Bhasma Aarti on the same day?
Yes, and most people do. It is at about four in the morning and entry is limited, so it has to be arranged in advance. Tell us when you book and we will try; we will say plainly if it cannot be done.
How long does the day take?
Roughly seven in the morning to seven at night, depending on the queues. If you need to be at the station by a certain hour, tell us and we will shorten the circuit rather than have you miss a train.
When do I pay?
At the end of the day, to the driver. Nothing is taken when you book, and there is no account to create.
Can the six temples be changed?
Yes. Swap any of them for Sandipani Ashram, Gadkalika, Bhartrihari Caves or Siddhavat at no extra cost, as long as the day still fits. Ask us on WhatsApp.

UjjainSeva arranges the vehicle and the driver. We are not a temple trust and have no official connection to any temple committee. Darshan and aarti hours are set by the temples, not by us, and access is never guaranteed. Prices exclude any entry or special darshan ticket.
